Abstract
The purposes of this research were 1) to develop a training model for enhancing facilitation skills of teachers. 2) to study the effects of using the training model on knowledge and understanding, attitude and facilitation skills. The research procedure comprised 2 steps. First, developing the training model and supplementary materials and second, testing the developed model.
The results of this research were as follows :
1. The training model consisted of 5 elements : principles, objectives, contents, training processes and evaluation. The training processes involved 2 phases : three days of theoretical training and one month of practical training. The first phase activities were as follows : 1) obtaining the theoretical knowledge of facilitation 2) demonstrating by the model 3) practicing in the sub-skills of facilitation 4) role playing in the simulations 5) coaching and giving feedback and 6) giving the principle about self – regulation. The activities of the second phase were : 1) stimulating trainees to apply their learned concepts to formulate a facilitating plan 2) providing self-regulated teaching in the real situation and 3) coaching the process by the trainer.
2. The results of testing the model were as follows :
a) The average scores of knowledge and understanding, attitude and facilitation skills of the teachers trained through the developed model were higher than the 70 percent criterion of the total scores.
b) The average scores of the posttest in knowledge and understanding, attitude and facilitation skills of the teachers trained through the developed model were higher than those of the pre-test at the .01 level of significance.
